Some of you may have noticed on the sidebar, we have our “Top Five of the Moment” listed. These are the five books that are most clicking with each Pants writer. It may or may not represent the best books we’ve read all month, year, or just what we’re digging that week. We generally try to update it with books from that week, but there are no hard and fast rules. Inspired by an email from one of our readers, we’re going to post every Friday with the most recent Top Five from each member of the Panteon, and hope for your comments on our lists, or maybe even your own “Top Five of the Moment.”

Down the Line is our monthly look at Previews, and what titles are coming out a few months, well, “down the line.”
This installment covers the April Previews for comics due to ship out in June 2007. Remember, especially with the indy books, that pre-ordering is your friend, and the best way to make sure you get the books you want. I should mention, thanks to the increasing prevalence of advance solicitation, that several of the books here won’t actually ship until July or later, but the preorders are still due by the end of April.

Wednesday Number Ones is a weekly feature here at Comic Pants. We take the books that are premiering a first issue from that week and give a quick opinion on them. From time to time we may also include more than issue number ones in this feature. If a noteworthy one-shot or the first issue of a new story arc is released, we may talk about it in this feature.
This week we will cover Guy Ritchie’s Game Keeper #1, Texas Strangers #1, Unique #1 of 3, Virulents One-Shot, and Wonder Woman #6.
Wednesday Number Ones will be posted midday in the future due to a comics shipping change. This is a change outside of our control, but we will continue to strive for the timeliest response to the week’s jumping-on points possible without sacrificing quality.

Writer: Mark Waid
Artist: George Pérez
Company: DC Comics
With one solid and thoroughly entertaining issue under its belt, DC’s adventure meets murder mystery meets road trip caper The Brave and the Bold continues to be a book that stars heroes who feel like true heroes, has big budget action and is a gleefully absorbing read. Not only is the writing and art that good, but writer Mark Waid is able to amp things up with a keen understanding and ability to take second tier heroes, ones that are more or less background characters, and make them endearing, funny and downright neato. In other words, he writes for the awesome. Yes, you heard me, he writes for the awesome.

Writer/Artist: Brandon Graham
Company: Tokyopop
King City is about seven different flavors of awesome. That’s the easiest way to sum up Brandom Graham’s sprawling, crazy, funny romp through a futuristic city viewed through the eyes of a slacker/petty crook with a hyper-intelligent cat that can be used as everything from a lockpick to a weapon. It’s got the crazy “I can’t believe that just happened” vibe of Scott Pilgrim, with a rapid-fire sense of humor and more crazy, fun ideas spewed than in any book this side of Grant Morrison. And it’s all backed up by one of the most impressive up-and-coming alternative cartoonists I’ve Continue Reading »

Lo, something stirs in the hills, and it’s D3 (David Martindale), Nick Budd, Randy Lander, Dave Farabee and Dan Grendell! This time, they chat about what Dave likes to call “Shit You Aren’t Reading” - in other words, criminally under-appreciated books. Each of our Panteon reviewers chose three titles (tough calls!) to call attention to, explaining a bit about each one and why more people should be checking them out. Sometimes it’s for the writing, sometimes it’s for the art, most often it’s both, but in every case there’s something special about these titles that most people are missing out on and it’s a shame.
