Some of you may have noticed on the sidebar, we have our “Top Five of the Moment” listed. These are the five books that are most clicking with each Pants writer. It may or may not represent the best books we’ve read all month, year, or just what we’re digging that week. We generally try to update it with books from that week, but there are no hard and fast rules. Inspired by an email from one of our readers, we’re going to post every Friday with the most recent Top Five from each member of the Panteon, and hope for your comments on our lists, or maybe even your own “Top Five of the Moment.”

What is Rumble Pants? Well, the Panteon has decided to play at god once more. We take a few select comic characters and pit them against one another for our amusement, but we figured why keep the fun all to ourselves? So we decided on a format that would require your participation and will hopefully provide amusement for you at the same time. The format is a single elimination tournament with weekly rounds decided by you, the reader. Just keep reading to help decide the ultimate fate of some of your favorite comic characters!

Wednesday Number Ones is a weekly feature here at Comic Pants. We take the books that are premiering a first issue from that week and give a quick opinion on them. From time to time we may also include more than issue number ones in this feature. If a noteworthy one-shot or the first issue of a new story arc is released, we may talk about it in this feature.
This week we will cover Cover Girl #1, The Goon: Satan’s $@#%* Baby One Shot, Left on Mission #1, and X-Men First Class Special. Due to a shipping error, we will review G.I. Joe: Storm Shadow #1 next week.

With eyes focused on the future, the Panteon speaks again! This week Randy Lander, Nick Budd, D3 (David Martindale), and Dan Grendell talk about two comics projects each is looking forward to in the near future. What’s on the horizon? What has caught our eye? From popular books to obscure stuff, each member sounds off, except Dave Farabee, who is off sorting his hate mail from John Byrne. Of course, we all have different tastes, so let us know in the comments what upcoming comics have you excited!

What is a “Hot Pants” pick? Quite simply, it’s a book that all five reviewers on this site believe is worthy of your time. It may or may not be one of our favorite books, but it’s that rare breed of comic that struck all five of us, with our different tastes, as a good read. The Spirit is our latest “Hot Pants” pick.

Writer: Tim Seeley
Artist: Emily Stone
Company: Devil’s Due
I’ve reviewed Hack/Slash any number of times in the past, and the series has always been a touch hit and miss with me. It has had a variety of artists, some good, some not so good, a couple very good. It has had some very fun, memorable stories, and others that suffered from the series’ one-shot structure. The Hack/Slash ongoing series is a way for the book to develop its interesting premise and characters, and Seeley has found an excellent artistic collaborator in Emily Stone, who keeps the creep factor up but also delivers the emotional core of the story. The first issue is a classic Hack/Slash Continue Reading »

We here at Comic Pants like to hear what you think about changes we make to the site. You’ve asked for more manga content, so here it is- a new monthly column, like unto our Fat Pants column, but dealing strictly with manga released each month. What struck our fancy? What did we think was a good read? What new and cool ideas appeared this month in books read backwards? Of course, we can’t read everything, but we’re sure gonna try. And by we, I really mean me, because aside from the occassional bit of chipping in, this baby’s all mine. Continue Reading »
