Rumble Pants I: Elite Eight

logo.jpgWhat is Rumble Pants? Well, the Panteon has decided to play at god once more. We take a few select comic characters and pit them against one another for our amusement, but we figured why keep the fun all to ourselves? So we decided on a format that would require your participation and will hopefully provide amusement for you at the same time. The format is a single elimination tournament with weekly rounds decided by you, the reader. Just keep reading to help decide the ultimate fate of some of your favorite comic characters!

elite-8.jpgThis week it’s the Elite Eight! Just vote in each of the Villain Division match-ups and each of the Hero Division match-ups to keep your favorites in the tournament. Remember, this isn’t about who would be most likely win in each fight; it’s about who you want to win each fight and advance to the next round. Click the bracket thumbnail above to the side to see how the tournament has progressed so far. Next week will be the Final Four! If you don’t see your favorite characters in the tournament, don’t worry, we’ll be doing a whole new brackets after we crown an overall champ.

You’re forcing me to choose between Steve Ditko’s greatest creations? YOU ARE MAD!

  2. Would it ruin the fun if I threw out my prediction that Squirrel Girl’s going to beat out Darkseid in the finals, 64% to 36%?

I’ve never read a squirrel girl story so I went with Dr. Strange but she’s definitely garnering the “goof” vote it would appear…

I thought her power was to talk to squirrels?

Just so you know, a vote for Squirrel Girl is a vote for furry victory… and a vote against the Sorcerer Supreme.

If you vote for Squirrel Girl, don’t come crying to me when Dormammu trashes your dimension… you’ll have only yourself to blame.

Otherwise, I think everyone I voted for is winning. I wanted to vote for Bullseye on general underdog principles, but I like Darkseid better, *and* he’s going to win just about any fight the two are in. I’ve seen both Harley and the Penguin used well and badly, so I went with who I thought would win (Harley) and with Adam Strange/Ka-Zar, well… I was conflicted. I like both characters, and again, my heart goes out to the jungle lord underdog, but, Strange is just cooler. Plus he’s got a jetpack and laser guns. Jungle lord is going down.

The Adam Strange/Ka-Zar match-up is the one in this round I’d most like to see in comics, though. It’s Buck Rogers knockoff meets Tarzan knockoff, and that sounds like pure pulp fun.

Well maybe Doc needs to get the crazed walking plot device, otherwise known as Wanda to say “No more Squirrels” that should take care of the problem. ;)

Well, sure, but tons of people have beat Thanos.

I’d like to see Adam Warlock or Drax the Destroyer have a meaningful conversation with a squirrel.

By the way, for those of you thinking Darkseid is gonna walk with this one, let me just say this… it looks like his next opponent might be Harley Quinn. The woman who won the heart of sociopathic clown The Joker. I’m just saying, Darkseid’s powerful and all, but when was the last time you saw him go out on a date?

Harley might wrap him around her little finger.

Wish one of you great poster makers would make a Squirrel Girl for {rez 2008 one. That would be funny.

It’s awesome/crazy/awesome again that the race between Dr. Strange and Squirrel Girl is close, tied even. Going over Strange is one thing, but she’ll get smoked in the finals vs. Darkseid. Who are we kidding, this is Darkseid’s deal to win.

If it comes down to those two next round, suddenly the whole “vote for who you want to win” thing becomes important to me. Would I want to see Harley kick Darkseid’s a$$? Yes. Yes I would.

So, I guess that really good BKV Dr. Strang minseries didn’t do the man any good at all with the fans.

Meanwhile, Adam Strange vs. Ka-Zar is essentially the classic “Cavemen vs. Astronauts” debate so memorably on Angel. I voted for Adam because he can fight like anything, but I don’t think he wins just because he has a laser.

You know that would be cool, the batlle of the Strange, Super science vs. Super Magic, it would be a classic.
Doc Strange is currently a little ahead, though that one is still too close to call, only one that it is at this point.

Squirrel Girl’s no longer the underdog anyway. Squirrelgirl ALWAYS wins because she’s “ALWAYS” the ‘underdog’. “LOL SHE BEAT DOOM! LOL” faggotry and the like. No, here my good sir, here Dr. Strange is the underdog.

He’s an intelligent and sophisticated character up against the biggest fan-plot armor character around. I think she could probably even hand Wolverine his ass at this point in a fight. (Note: Fight. Not Nuking. Unless she had some sort of…acorn…shield…)

There should have been seperate tourneys for men and women, because its hard to decided between picking the cute chick or the badass guy. Then again, it would probally sink into even more nerd-rage if there was an all girl bracket and Harley/Squirrel Girl/Tigra/Wonder Woman were matched up.

One would hope. Because if people are actually taking the time to change their IPs and vote more than once to spoof a silly Internet fan contest with absolutely no consequences for anyone…

Well, that’d just be the stupidest thing ever.

This reminds me of those rainy Sundays of my youth when I would use the original Marvel Super-Heroes RPG (remember? the one with the little standees of all the characters) to create a tournament of all the heroes in the set. I would rank them by their power levels and have them go one-on-one until there was a final winner. I seem to remember that the flying, energy-beam-shooting characters always did best (for instance, Capt. Marvel, Monica Rambeau-version) Poor Mr. Fantastic always seemed to be the ranked dead-last and would have to battle the Silver Surfer or some other uber-character in the first round!
