Rumble Pants II: Elite Eight

logo.jpgWhat is Rumble Pants? Well, the Panteon has decided to play at god once more. We take a few select comic characters and pit them against one another for our amusement, but we figured why keep the fun all to ourselves? So we decided on a format that would require your participation and will hopefully provide amusement for you at the same time. The format is a single elimination tournament with weekly rounds decided by you, the reader. Just keep reading to help decide the ultimate fate of some of your favorite comic characters!

Who has a good shared server host?

ce5o6izitzdci7afdt4vol3ymrej63yx.jpegI’m not going to mention who we use, but it’s been one headache after another. At least 95% of the technical problems with our site have been server side, and the frequency of MySQL server crashes is insane. The most recent crash corrupted some of our data in the wordpress database. So the site might not look so great for the next 24 hours or so while I try to get things back to normal. I would love to hear any suggestions for a new shared hosting solution. What I’m looking for more than anything else is stability. We have weekly crashes that last for hours and tech support that doesn’t care, and it’s driving me insane!

Comic Pants Podcast Announcement

Union Cat is On A Break from icanhascheezburger.comWe’re taking a week or two off from podcasting here at Comic Pants. Basically, everybody is pretty busy with everyday life stuff, and so we decided to take a break, recharge our batteries and come back at podcasting fresh. Not to worry, Wednesday Number Ones, Rumble Pants and Top Five Fridays will continue as usual, and with any luck we’ll manage to get a few more reviews out there as well.

In the meantime, here’s what we need from you guys, preferably posted in the comments below: Topics. And lots of them. What do you want to hear us talk about in upcoming podcasts? We’ve got a few ideas, but we can always use more, and this is your chance to point us in a direction you’re interested in listening to.

New Warriors #1

Writer: Kevin Grevioux
Artist: Paco Medina
Company: Marvel Comics

nwc.jpgFirst issues are a tough lot for a lot of reasons. There is a laundry list of things that they must do, and do well, in order to set themselves apart from the always jam-packed list of other number 1’s that are coming out. Beyond that, they have to wrangle the reader’s interests for long enough to make them want to come back for a second helping. It’s more than tough really, it’s an uphill dogfight where one wrong rudder manipulation can get you killed. So, with all of those things in mind, does the first issue of The New Warriors deliver the all important, one-two knockout Continue Reading »

Top Five Fridays 6/8/07

top5.jpgSome of you may have noticed on the sidebar, we have our “Top Five of the Moment” listed. These are the five books that are most clicking with each Pants writer. It may or may not represent the best books we’ve read all month, year, or just what we’re digging that week. We generally try to update it with books from that week, but there are no hard and fast rules. Inspired by an email from one of our readers, we’re going to post every Friday with the most recent Top Five from each member of the Panteon, and hope for your comments on our lists, or maybe even your own “Top Five of the Moment.”

Manga Zubon May 2007

manga_zubon.jpgWelcome to Manga Zubon, where I take a look at the manga that have come out each month and pick what I think are the best of the lot. These are the manga that I feel deserve recognition and readership more than the rest, so I’m singling them out. My focus in this column is mostly on first volumes to get you in on the ground floor of new series, but I will include standouts in ongoing series as well. Keep in mind that though I do my best, I can’t read everything that comes out each month, so if you have something you think I missed or Continue Reading »
