Rumble Pants II: Elite Eight

logo.jpgWhat is Rumble Pants? Well, the Panteon has decided to play at god once more. We take a few select comic characters and pit them against one another for our amusement, but we figured why keep the fun all to ourselves? So we decided on a format that would require your participation and will hopefully provide amusement for you at the same time. The format is a single elimination tournament with weekly rounds decided by you, the reader. Just keep reading to help decide the ultimate fate of some of your favorite comic characters!

elite-8.jpgFor simplicity’s sake we’re starting at the Sweet Sixteen stage. Just vote in each of the Villain Division match-ups and each of the Hero Division match-ups to keep your favorites in the tournament. Remember, this isn’t about who would be most likely win in each fight; it’s about who you want to win each fight and advance to the next round. Click the bracket thumbnail above to the side to see how the tournament has progressed so far. Next week will be the Final Four! If you don’t see your favorite characters in the tournament, don’t worry, we’ll be doing a whole new bracket after we crown an overall champ.

  1. Did I get the first reply? SWEET!

I would love to see the fight between Fing Fang Foom and Doctor Doom, unless Doom just blast cinimmon up the big guy’s nose. That was what weakened him right?

Looks bad for the ladies, I voted for them, but I guess unlike last time I did not run the board.

Wow, I feel like a tool. All the folks I voted for were the clear winners. Doesn’t look like a close race in the house (so far, anyway).

Yeah, I only voted in one race where my horse is losing.

I voted for the “original” Juggernaut and the “future” Gail Simone Wonder Woman (which will be awesome). I did not vote for the current incarnations of either character. Doom and Zatanna seemed like no-brainers to me…

Holding out hope for a Wonder Woman - Zantana throw down! I lead a sad and lonely life.

Everyone I voted for was already winning except for the Vision. Do I feel fanboyish? Of course not. Everyone I picked is awesome (except for Juggy’s current continuity). The only fanboyish pic is Zatanna. As much as I love the fishnets, the character never did anything for me.

Really? I was sold on her after she smoked weed grown on Swamp Thing at John Constantine’s birthday party and said “I am so baked” backwards.

I suppose Zatanna will just lobotomize me if I disagree with the majority. What contest?

I’m surprised Juggarnaut is giving purple man such a trashing especially now he’s a good guy and what not (what not = bad characterisation). I think the Cage / purple man story is pretty scary, I just love it in breakout when purple man is just standing in the corner looking ominous and he gets his comeuppance. Plus he’s called purple man.

I think most people are voting for the classic version of Juggernaut, not the current craptastic version.

I had actually managed to remove the craptastic version from my mind… until now.

    Thanks

I voted for Zatanna because of Morrison + Ryan Sook + garter belt. But if I’d known about the Swamp Thing weed incident… that’s just awesome.

Final showdown? Zatanna vs. Doom. And Doom is a clear winner. Unless, of course, Zatanna wins and it turns out we’ve been voting for a Doombot all along.

Did Zatanna remove it for you? If so, can she remove Civil War from my mind?

I may be the only one, but I voted for Juggernaut as he is now. I like his change in heart (or maybe Zatanna made me like him).

Not quite the only one, just nearly so. I like him better now too, thought he was a three-note villain before, those notes being, nothing can stop me, I hate Xavier and I have a man crush on Black Tom, I find the character to have a lot more depth now.

I liked a Chuck Austen idea.

Scary isn’t it, at the risk of being labeled a lunatic, i.e. Chuck Austen-phile, I will dare mention one other thing I liked that he did, and that was his characterization of Northstar. I thought he handled the character rather well, probably the best he has been handled.
