Rumble Pants II: Sweet Sixteen

logo.jpgWhat is Rumble Pants? Well, the Panteon has decided to play at god once more. We take a few select comic characters and pit them against one another for our amusement, but we figured why keep the fun all to ourselves? So we decided on a format that would require your participation and will hopefully provide amusement for you at the same time. The format is a single elimination tournament with weekly rounds decided by you, the reader. Just keep reading to help decide the ultimate fate of some of your favorite comic characters!

The overall champ from the last bracket was Harley Quinn by a mere 8 votes! And now it’s time for an all new bracket.

round-three.jpgFor simplicity’s sake we’re starting at the Sweet Sixteen stage. Just vote in each of the Villain Division match-ups and each of the Hero Division match-ups to keep your favorites in the tournament. Remember, this isn’t about who would be most likely win in each fight; it’s about who you want to win each fight and advance to the next round. Click the bracket thumbnail above to the side to see how the tournament has progressed so far. Next week will be the Elite Eight! If you don’t see your favorite characters in the tournament, don’t worry, we’ll be doing a whole new bracket after we crown an overall champ.

Do I have to bother voting in this or is it going to be fixed like the last one, wherein Harley was down by 2 percent (about 19 votes) until a site outage, after which she was miraculously up by 8 for the win?

You don’t have to bother doing anything, but if want to vote… it is open to the public.

And if the admins wanted to fix the vote, we wouldn’t need to crash the site to do it. In fact, the site outage really inconvenienced us by delaying our flagship feature, Wednesday Number Ones.

The last one wasn’t fixed. There were enthusiastic voters for both Harley and Squirrel Girl, and they tended to vote in large blocks at various chunks of time.

But c’mon… we’re doing this for fun. None of us are going to “fix” a vote anyway, but we’re certainly not going to do it when there are no consequences one way or the other.

Good Bracket!! lot of fun characters here. I was suprised at Doom totally owning Lex Luthor but thats probably more an indictment of DC’s lack of ability to write good Luthor stories than any Luthor hate.

One more thing, I must campaign for Vision who has been through some horrible stories, like the Byrne/West Coast Avengers and of course, everybodies favorite Avengers Disassembled. Lets put Vision through to the next round. Whaddya say?

But in the midst of World War Hulk, the real question I ask, rather than who will win Rumble Pants, is “If you could trick any comics character or creator into a satellite and then fire it off into space, who would it be?”

    [Cue Mark Millar jokes here...]

I vote Martian Manhunter. Or Judd Winick.

  34. Why is Doom beating Luthor so handily? I think many of us actually like Doom. I know I like a good Dr. Doom story. He is a misguided megalomaniac. He believes he does stuff for alturistic reasons. Luthor has always been, in any incarnation, a scumbag. He is just an awful person with not redeemable qualities. You can see each side with the heroes against a great threat, but Luthor would sell them out in the middle of the threat. Doom would wait until his honor bound word was complete and then make a play for power.

Purple Man is remembered by many older readers as the father of Persuasion of Alpha Flight, many of us have no clue or connection to the Bendis character. Plus, P-Man might be better known than Dr. Psycho.

Why is there a different number of votes for all categories? It seems like they would be equal unless some abstain or some have figured out how to multiple vote and just pick certain fights.

That’s providing you even ever get to pull that lighter out, the guy has just about all of Superman’s powers, sure a few notches below Superman’s ability, which is still mega powerful, plus invisibility, intangibility and he’s one of the most powerful telepaths in the DC universe.
Besides that fire thing seems to come and go in intensity depending who’s writing him. ;)
