Writer: J. Michael Straczynski
Artist: Joe Quesada
Company: Marvel Comics
What would you do if you only had one more day? It’s the foreboding question that not only looms on the cover of this issue, but has also appeared in one form or another on many Marvel house ads, solicits and a good majority of other book’s covers as well. Needless to say, the hype machine for this “One More Day” storyline is in full gear. In fact, the word around the campfire is that this is going to rival the recent death of Captain America storyline, and will transform the landscape of the Spider-Man titles for years to come. That’s an awful lot to promise a reader, especially since the “Death of a Dream” stuff Continue Reading »

Some of you may have noticed on the sidebar, we have our “Top Five of the Moment” listed. These are the five books that are most clicking with each Pants writer. It may or may not represent the best books we’ve read all month, year, or just what we’re digging that week. We generally try to update it with books from that week, but there are no hard and fast rules. Inspired by an email from one of our readers, we’re going to post every Friday with the most recent Top Five from each member of the Panteon, and hope for your comments on our lists, or maybe even your own “Top Five of the Moment.”

Writer/Artist: Jeffrey Brown
Company: Top Shelf Productions
I have previously expressed an appreciation for Jeffrey Brown’s work, which matches the gleeful innocence and sheer weirdness of James Kochalka with the occasionally too painful to look at sincerity of Craig Thompson for a variety of borderline embarrassing but often very funny autobiographical tales of romantic failure. When he diverges from that genre and applies his same sort of sensitive dude ethos to superhero parody tinged with a sincere love of the genre, that’s pretty entertaining too. But with Incredible Change-Bots, a mixture of pure, sincere Continue Reading »

Welcome to Manga Zubon, where I take a look at the manga that have come out each month and pick what I think are the best of the lot. These are the manga that I feel deserve recognition and readership more than the rest, so I’m singling them out. My focus in this column is mostly on first volumes to get you in on the ground floor of new series, but I will include standouts in ongoing series as well. Keep in mind that though I do my best, I can’t read everything that comes out each month, so if you have something Continue Reading »

Wednesday Number Ones is a weekly feature here at Comic Pants. We take the books that are premiering a first issue from that week and give a quick opinion on them. From time to time we may also include more than issue number ones in this feature. If a noteworthy one-shot or the first issue of a new story arc is released, we may talk about it in this feature.
This week we will cover 52 Aftermath The Four Horsemen #1 of 6, Brit #1, Countdown To Adventure #1 of 8, Gene Simmons Dominatrix #1, Last Fantastic Four Story #1, Mice Templar #1, Punks The Summer Comics Special #1, and Teen Titans #50.

Fat Pants is a monthly Comic Pants feature in which we mull over the last month’s trades and graphic novels in order to let you know which ones we feel are most worth your attention. It is far from a comprehensive list of all the good reads published in the past month, so please feel free let us know in the comments which trades and graphic novels came out in the last month that you, the reader, feel are most worth our attention. So, without further ado, here are the books we think really stood out this month.

Boxers or Briefs is a feature where we get to interview people and ask them really important questions about pants. We also get to ask less important questions about their current projects and their experience in the industry. The Panteon recently had a chance interview Robert Kirkman & Jay Faerber. Robert Kirkman is the writer of Image’s Invincible, The Walking Dead, Astounding Wolf-Man and a little book from Marvel called Marvel Zombies, which starts its second series in October. Jay Faerber is the writer of Image’s Noble Causes and “Hot Pants” favorite Dynamo 5. We rounded the two of them up and asked them some questions we thought they’d both have some thoughts on. Submit a request here if you think we should interview you, or make suggestions in the comments if you’ve got someone you think we should interview.

Many of you may have noticed that we were down for all of Monday and some of Tuesday. We had a server crash at our hosting company and they had to migrate everything over to a new server. We should be up and running now, but if there are any other outages, they’ll be related to that. Unfortunately, these glitches delayed a few features that were meant to go up on Sunday and Monday, and real-life scheduling has interfered with getting them up at this point. So the next part of the “Top Six” podcast, while more or less complete, probably won’t go up until this weekend at the earliest. But we hope that the site won’t bug out again, and we’ll be able to bring you Wednesday Number Ones as usual on Wednesday (albeit maybe a little late, as it’s going to be a busy Wednesday for the gang in real life). In addition, work continues on the super-delayed Fat Pants July (should be this week) and has begun on next month’s Down the Line and Manga Zubon. So, many updates should flow soon! Sorry for the delays!

What is Rumble Pants? Well, the Panteon has decided to play at god once more. We take a few select comic characters and pit them against one another for our amusement, but we figured why keep the fun all to ourselves? So we decided on a format that would require your participation and will hopefully provide amusement for you at the same time. The format is a single elimination tournament with weekly rounds decided by you, the reader. Just keep reading to help decide the ultimate fate of some of your favorite comic characters!
