Rumble Pants IV: Championship

logo.jpgWhat is Rumble Pants? Well, the Panteon has decided to play at god once more. We take a few select comic characters and pit them against one another for our amusement, but we figured why keep the fun all to ourselves? So we decided on a format that would require your participation and will hopefully provide amusement for you at the same time. The format is a single elimination tournament with weekly rounds decided by you, the reader. Just keep reading to help decide the ultimate fate of some of your favorite comic characters!

This is it, the final match-up of round 4, and we’ve got a bit of a weird one: Marvel’s resident martial arts expert, Iron Fist, currently enjoying a resurgence of popularity thanks to Immortal Iron Fist and Joker, Batman’s arch-foe, who has crippled or killed his fair share of martial artists in his time. Final round… fight!

Remember, this isn’t just about who would be most likely win in each fight; it’s about who you want to win each fight and advance to the next round. Click the bracket thumbnail above to the side to see how the tournament has progressed so far. These polls will close just after midnight on Sunday, September 9th. However, stay tuned this week for an extra Rumble Pants, as the first indy comics round launches on Wednesday, since Wednesday Number Ones will be delayed until Thursday due to Labor Day.

Not to knock the Joker but besides the Dini story in Detective a few months ago has he done anything recently? Still, i’m kinda surprised he’s losing. Anyway, thanks to Brubaker and Fraction my vote goes to Iron Fist.

  6. Joker is unpredictable. Yeah, Iron Fist would pummel him, but in the end the Joker would trick the honorable guy and once the guard was down, the evil genius who lives in Insaneville would get his knocks in.

I am impressed and surprised at all the love being thrown to Iron Fist. I always just thought of him as a cheesy, 70s era kung fu cliche. I’m willing to admit I might be wrong. Does anyone have a recommendation for some good Iron Fist stories?

The first hardcover of Immortal Iron Fist, by Fraction, Brubaker, Aja, Foreman and more. I have a love for Iron Fist that goes back to the Power Man & Iron Fist days, and you probably can’t go wrong with some of that stuff, although it’ll take some back issue diving. But if you want to see why so many people today have the love for it, check out Immortal Iron Fist. You won’t be sorry. #8, which just came out, is a jumping-on point, but the best place to start is really with the beginning, which is collected in that hardcover for $20.

Thanks for the Iron Fist recommendation. I’ll check it out next time I’m in my comics shop.
