Wednesday Number Ones is a weekly feature here at Comic Pants. We take the books that are premiering a first issue from that week and give a quick opinion on them. From time to time we may also include more than issue number ones in this feature. If a noteworthy one-shot or the first issue of a new story arc is released, we may talk about it in this feature.
This week we will cover Action Comics #858, Biff Bam Pow #1, Countdown Lord Havok And The Extremists #1, Crime Bible The Five Lessons Of Blood #1, DC Infinite Halloween Special #1, Midnighter Armageddon #1, Necromancer Pilot Season #1, Primordia #1, Special Forces #1, Tales Of The Fear Agent 12 Steps In One #1, and X-Men Messiah Complex One Shot.

What is Rumble Pants? Well, the Panteon has decided to play at god once more. We take a few select comic characters and pit them against one another for our amusement, but we figured why keep the fun all to ourselves? So we decided on a format that would require your participation and will hopefully provide amusement for you at the same time. The format is a single elimination tournament with weekly rounds decided by you, the reader. Just keep reading to help decide the ultimate fate of some of your favorite comic characters!

I know, I know…the Transformers comics are usually synonymous with uninspired, licensed comics that are about as interesting as watching paint dry on a Sunday afternoon. I myself wouldn’t ever say that because I have always been a fan of the property and of the original Marvel comics run, even though a few of those story lines were a little less than…What’s the word? Perfect. Having said all that, and skipping over the Dreamwave stuff, we now come to the IDW imprint of the Transformers line, which has been nothing short of a pleasant surprise. IDW, Simon Furman, and E.J. Su Continue Reading »

Down the Line is our monthly look at Previews, and what titles are coming out a few months, well, “down the line.”
This installment covers the November Previews for comics due to ship out in January 2008. Remember, especially with the indy books, that pre-ordering is your friend, and the best way to make sure you get the books you want. I should mention, thanks to the increasing prevalence of advance solicitation, that some of the books here won’t actually ship until February or later, but the pre-orders are still due by the end of November. We may have already covered this one in our Wednesday #1 column, but I’m coming late to the game, so let me reiterate something that may have easily slipped past you: Atomic Robo is a comic book that puts forth a hearty dose of action packed entertainment, and it’s a crime to miss it. The general idea behind the whole shebang is one that’s amazingly simplistic but enormously brilliant in that the main character, Atomic Robo, a robot with automatic intelligence discovered in the early 1900’s by renowned inventor Nikola Tesla, is basically a go to robot that is sent into dangerous situations where the odds Continue Reading »

Boy, I couldn’t wait to get Gene Simmons’ Zipper open and take a look at what was inside.
Okay, it’s a horrible name. But the book is good.
In a truly unitary culture, where all are one and everything is done for the betterment of the group, there can be no greater sin than to be an individual. To be different, to think differently, is the mark of a dangerous mind- one that threatens the Continue Reading »

Some of you may have noticed on the sidebar, we have our “Top Five of the Moment” listed. These are the five books that are most clicking with each Pants writer. It may or may not represent the best books we’ve read all month, year, or just what we’re digging that week. We generally try to update it with books from that week, but there are no hard and fast rules. Inspired by an email from one of our readers, we’re going to post every Friday with the most recent Top Five from each member of the Panteon, and hope for your comments on our lists, or maybe even your own “Top Five of the Moment.”

Hey Doc, fire up the flux capacitor, and set course for 1992. We’ve got an epic-sized X-Men crossover that spans several books, creative teams, and months. It’s the first big X-Crossover in quite some time if you don’t count the abortive Endangered Species crossover that was really only a series of back-up stories. I feel reminded of the near constant X-Crossovers of the 90’s, and I’ve got to admit that I’m both exceptionally excited and nervous all at the same time. This could very well be what the X-Franchise needs to get kicked back into high gear and return to prominence, or it could very well be the latest installment in a long running pattern of overly hyped X-Crossovers that deliver little more than flashy covers. After reading an advance copy of the one-shot kicking off the event, I have more reason to feel confident… and more reason to be nervous.

Boxers or Briefs is a feature where we get to interview people and ask them really important questions about pants. We also get to ask less important questions about their current projects and their experience in the industry. The Panteon recently had a chance to interview Tim Seeley. Tim Seeley is the writer of Devil’s Due Publishing’s newest hit, Hack/Slash, has provided art and story for the various G.I. Joe vs. Transformers series and is the artist for the popular Forgotten Realms: The Dark Elf Trilogy. He’s also the writer at the helm of Image’s Loaded Bible - aka “Jesus vs. Vampires.” Needless to say, Tim’s got his hands in everything these days. Lucky for us, we were able to steal him away from his important work to interrogate him about horror movies, Dungeons & Dragons, and his ideal He-Man. Submit a request here if you think we should interview you, or make suggestions in the comments if you’ve got someone you think we should interview.
