I have to say, I have read the first three and am not that impressed. I do not care for the way they skipped everything and you do not know how the characters got to where they are now. Did I miss something inbetween the series ending and "After the Fall" or is it just me? I am a die hard fan, did not want the show to end, and wasn't wild about parts of the finale (Lorne / Lindsey) however, over all it lived up to the hype. Any info would be appreciated at:

A note on Franco Urru's artwork:
I will admit that it looks a little muddy, however if you can get your hands Spike: Shadow-Puppets, or Spike: Asylum, you'll notice that his lines are a lot cleaner than in Angel. Plus, in the back of (I think) the first Shadow-Puppets (Once More With Felt) Brian Lynch draws the readers attention to Spike's dream sequence, (more like thought-sequence) and this shows an interesting difference: in the dream sequence the characters are rounder and heartier, the lines(and backgrounds) are cleaner, and Angel looks like the football star we thought of him as in Buffy: Season One. My point being, apparantly the reason After the Fall is drawn that way is because that's partially how Angel perceives himself, that's why the Angel in Spike looks like a "winner", and why Spike's lines are less complicated. According to Brian (and I guess he'd know) it's a characterization comment, and Joss asked for After the Fall to look that way.

I loved the fifth season of Angel and I loved the ending to the show. It left me wanting more, which, for me, is the best you can ask of a finale. It's this want for more that had me excited for this story. I didn't find the first issue to be amazing or spectacular, but it was good, and it definitely will have me coming back for more to see where they're taking this story.

I initially hated the non-ending of Angel, but the more I thought about it and rewatched it afterward, the more I came to like it.

Which makes this mini the best of both worlds for me, I guess.

I thought the ending of Angel was great as well, and while a little hesitant about the continuation ruining the ambiguous ending, I'm also overjoyed that more canon stuff is being done for it.

IDW continues to do solid, if not always outstanding, adaptions and stories for Angel and Spike, so I expect this will be at least as good as those, and with Whedon involved, probably better.

Like Randy said, if I want to support a smaller company, I pretty much expect to pay more. As long as its worth it (like the Fallen Angel example earlier), I don't mind paying it.

I've bought everything Whedon-related for my Whedon-worshipping lady, and this has both of us excited. Can't wait!
Is it gonna be $3.99? That is the crutch for me. I have Fallen Angel, but really am drawing a line at these $3.99 books, even though an IDW is better than a Marvel at that price when we look at the quality of paper and distribution of ads and such.
Price wasn't on my review copy, but I'll be very surprised if it isn't $3.99. My point of view on the higher prices of smaller publishers is that it sucks but I'll pay it because I know they're working at a smaller scale than Marvel/DC and I want to support the work.

Over at ComicbyComic it was said that FOX (and how much do I hate defending them) stopped the shows because a questions of how to pay actors and others responsible for production should occur. The shows can come back once they figure out the legal responsibilities of residuals apparnetly. At least it is not a flat out shut down and there is an apparent reason.

I despised the no exit attitude of the final episode of Angel- let's just say I identified with Lorne's philosophy, BUT I can't deny it was well executed, and this whole apocalypse thing was part of the original plan.

It would have been nice, however, for Whedon to have brought in Jeff Bell, who wrote and directed the final episode and I assume would have been the showrunner in S6, to work on this.

I would also like to say that after reading the Spike mini, I can totally see why Brian Lynch is the co-writer. The guy "gets" the voice of the characters surprisingly well, better than I've seen any outside ME writer do.

I personally love both the ending of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" fairly equally (although "Angel" obviously should have gone on at least another season, if not more).

Fil is obviously a very intelligent and classy person because I love the ending of "Angel" too. I only read first paragraph as I don't want to know too much.. (but I have read the 8page preview at darkhorse.com so I know that stuff). Lander's one word recommendation was good enough for me.

Thanks for the early review! I was not one of those unhappy with the ending of the Angel series. In fact, I loved it far more than the ending of Buffy (which to me ended two seasons too late...ending of 5 was good enough, if not great enough). It was a hopeless, Alamo-esque ending with a great one-liner to punch it and basically say, "He has faced heavy stuff before and he made it out and he will probably make it out again." I thought it was pretty classy, actually. Still, I might be interested in the further adventures of Angel and surviving cast members, if only out of curiosity and no deeper need for a wrap.

On a side note, is anyone else pissed that Fox canceled any further public presentations of the Buffy musical or "Buffyoke" that has been touring to heavily sold shows across the country? Here was something that gave fans something fun to do while sharing their love of the show with others. The jerks. (Sad for me because I was hoping to see it in Columbus this month...grr...)
