Rumble Pants VII: Elite Eight

logo.jpgWhat is Rumble Pants? Well, the Panteon has decided to play at god once more. We take a few select comic characters and pit them against one another for our amusement, but we figured why keep the fun all to ourselves? So we decided on a format that would require your participation and will hopefully provide amusement for you at the same time. The format is a single elimination tournament with weekly rounds decided by you, the reader. Just keep reading to help decide the ultimate fate of some of your favorite comic characters!

The first bout of the cosmic round is over, and there were some interesting battles. The winners split 50-50 down Marvel/DC ranks, and in our “Elite Eight” round, it’s Marvel vs. Marvel and DC vs. DC. Most interesting, perhaps, was the closest Rumble Pants battle yet, as Green Lantern Hal Jordan took out Silver Surfer by a mere two votes! Will there be any close calls this time around? As always, that’s up to you.

As always, though, it isn’t just about who would be most likely win in each fight; it’s about who you want to win each fight and advance to the next round. Click the bracket thumbnail above to the side to see how the tournament has progressed so far. These polls will close just after midnight on Wednesday, October 24th.

Look, I’m sure Annihilation is a good book, but there is no way Nova is more badass than Captain Marvel. Granted, there’s only been 11 votes, but still, that race ought to be tied, or clearly in the favor of CM.

Actually if you read Annihilation and Nova you will probably change your mind or at least agree they are in the same category. The reason Nova has the early lead is he is kicking butt NOW. Captain Marvel had a lame comeback issue, but really hasn’t done anything in years. Out of sight, out of mind.

I agree with Brian. I love what they’ve done with Nova, and do believe he’s in a whole new class over what he was in before. But I still don’t believe for a second he would beat Captain Marvel one-on-one. Give him a couple years though…

The finale looks like it could be pretty good here. Sinestro vs. Green Lantern, Drax vs. Nova, Nova vs. Sinestro … any of these would be pretty good. The match no one wants to see? Mogo vs. Firestorm.

  5. Surprised Mogo/Sinestro is as close as it is.

Speaking of Mogo, why is he (it?) in the villain division?

Elsewhere, Hal Jordan vs Firestorm is a tough one for me — I have no idea which character I dislike more. This is the first time in all the various rumble pants that I want a “neither” option :)

  7. Firestorm was one of the first comics I ever owned, and I’ve rarely read a good Green Lantern story, even though the character is neat, so I have to go with the obvious underdog in that one.

Uh… look! Over there! Monkeys battling hobos!

I cheated. Really, I *had* to have the Ego vs. Mogo battle, so I fudged Mogo into the villain division.
