Rumble Pants VII: Final Four

logo.jpgWhat is Rumble Pants? Well, the Panteon has decided to play at god once more. We take a few select comic characters and pit them against one another for our amusement, but we figured why keep the fun all to ourselves? So we decided on a format that would require your participation and will hopefully provide amusement for you at the same time. The format is a single elimination tournament with weekly rounds decided by you, the reader. Just keep reading to help decide the ultimate fate of some of your favorite comic characters!

As expected, the second bout of the cosmic round was a pretty brutal beatdown, although Mogo put up a pretty good fight against Sinestro, and there were some vocal supporters of Captain Marvel. At any rate, we’re moving towards a Sinestro vs. Green Lantern match-up… is it inevitable, or could Drax or Nova throw a monkey wrench into the works?

As always, though, it isn’t just about who would be most likely win in each fight; it’s about who you want to win each fight and advance to the next round. Click the bracket thumbnail above to the side to see how the tournament has progressed so far. These polls will close just after midnight on Sunday, October 28th.

I don’t know much about either Sinestro or Drax. I voted for Sinestro based almost entirely on his *awesome* name. I voted for Nova because I’m loving the series and I’m no fan of Geoff Johns… Still, Sinestro v. Green Lantern in the finals (as it looks to be shaping up) is quite the the DC fanboy matchup.

I found Sinestro/Drax to be a rough choice. I really love Drax, probably mostly out of childhood nostalgia. But I have to say, I find Sinestro to be much more interesting. I read both Marvel & DC, but honestly, I generally find the DC characters to be rather one dimensional. That is, I don’t think most of their characters have much motivation other than, “I’m a bad guy so I’m going to do bad things,” and “I’m a good guy so I’m going to do good things.” And I think that’s fine. I like that about DC. Generally, when writers try to force complexity or “realism” on the DC characters I don’t care for it. But I think Sinestro is an exception. At least since the Emerald Dawn miniseries, Sinestro has been an fascinating and complex villain. Still, I voted for Drax out of childhood love.

For Nova/GL, I couldn’t vote for Nova. He beat Captain Marvel in the last round, and I really don’t want to acknowledge that victory. However, I think Hal Jordan is pretty darn boring. I’ve tried hard, but I really can’t get into anything where he’s a main character (except for New Frontier). I voted for him, though, because I love the GL ring & the GL Corps as a concept. In fact, I think that maybe the GL ring is one of the coolest concepts/objects in all of comics. Seriously, with the possible exception of an infinity gem, is there any object from comics that you’d rather own than a GL ring?

Given the current storylines, Nova should be able to beat any GL with the entire Nova Force in him. I chose Drax over Sinestro because personally I feel him to be a more dangerous villain/anti-hero(if u might want to consider it like that) and he should be able to get around the sheer power of the Yellow ring that sinestro has through his cunning and ruthlessness.
