Rumble Pants IX: Elite Eight
What is Rumble Pants? Well, the Panteon has decided to play at god once more. We take a few select comic characters and pit them against one another for our amusement, but we figured why keep the fun all to ourselves? So we decided on a format that would require your participation and will hopefully provide amusement for you at the same time. The format is a single elimination tournament with weekly rounds decided by you, the reader. Just keep reading to help decide the ultimate fate of some of your favorite comic characters!
Welcome to the Elite Eight stage of the “Losers round.” Pity poor Owl, Gamora, Shiva, Cheetah, Warlord, Mouse Guard, Huntress and Manhunter… they’ve now gone out first in two different rounds of Rumble Pants. So in the second round, on the heroes side we’ve got two guys who have trained under Cap facing off as well as one of our weirder matches, a shrinking scientist vs. a space pirate. On the villains side, it’s a French kick-boxer vs. a scaly former wrestler and a crack shot vs. a guy who can imitate anything he sees. The call is out for a Hawkeye/Deadshot match-up in the finals, but as always, it’s up to the readers to make the call.
As always, though, it isn’t just about who would be most likely win in each fight; it’s about who you want to win each fight and advance to the next round. Click the bracket thumbnail above to the side to see how the tournament has progressed so far. These polls will close just after midnight on Wednesday, November 28th.

Went for Deadshot over Taskmaster, I like both characters, but thanks mostly to Ostrander, there have been a lot more cool stories with Deadshot.
The rest were easy picks for me. Batroc is one of my favorite villains, never a fan of that goofy space pirate, and Hawkeye is one of my favorite heroes.

QuoteNot really. Thanks to Brubaker, Winter Soldier has become one of my favorite characters. I’ve never had a strong opinion about Hawkeye, honestly.

QuoteI can’t believe Deadshot is in a dead heat with Taskmaster! Gah! He should be winning hands down. What is a good place to read Taskmaster? I read the manga-ish mini a few years ago and while I liked it, he wasn’t nearly as interesting as Deadshot.

QuoteSimone did a good, if comedic take on him during her Agent X run, but Deadshot is still way cooler in my book.
I’m surprised by the closeness of a lot of the races. I know most folks don’t dig Batroc as much as I do, but Killer Croc? Not one of Batman’s more compelling villains.
I guess I can see the Hawkeye/Winter Soldier race being close. Lot folks like Bru, but in my book that retcon that should have never been just can’t stack up to the years of coolness that are Hawkeye.

QuoteAside from Ant-Man/Corsair these are incredibly close matches (through about 270 votes it’s 51/49, 50/50, and 52/48).

QuoteFrankly, I want to see Deadshot and Hawkeye in the finals. A fight between two of them would be cool if only for the various one-liners and snarky comments they would throw each other’s way. But even though I want Deadshot to win the villains bracket, I love that Batroc is so competitive with Croc despite only having a fraction of the air time Killer Croc has enjoyed in recent years. I hope Batroc can somehow squeak it out.
