Rumble Pants VIII: Elite Eight

logo.jpgWhat is Rumble Pants? Well, the Panteon has decided to play at god once more. We take a few select comic characters and pit them against one another for our amusement, but we figured why keep the fun all to ourselves? So we decided on a format that would require your participation and will hopefully provide amusement for you at the same time. The format is a single elimination tournament with weekly rounds decided by you, the reader. Just keep reading to help decide the ultimate fate of some of your favorite comic characters!

Well, there were some upsets and surprises in our first Halloween round, including some very close battles. John Constantine defeated Doctor Strange by a slim margin of 10 votes and Faith defeated Blade by a margin of only 3 votes. Meanwhile, the B.P.R.D. look poised to sweep their division, and two fan-favorite undead ass-kickers, Faith and Ash, are going head to head in the biggest bout of the elite eight round.

As always, though, it isn’t just about who would be most likely win in each fight; it’s about who you want to win each fight and advance to the next round. Click the bracket thumbnail above to the side to see how the tournament has progressed so far. These polls will close just after midnight on Wednesday, November 7th.

Oh man, Ash vs Faith. Tough contest.

I’m predicting a final showdown between Constantine and Tank (which could actually happen in DC/Vertigo, and which would actually be pretty cool! :) ), and I’d be happy with either of them taking it.

That may be the first time I’ve voted for all winners in a round of 8 or 16.

  4. I’ve never/seen read Buffy so it’s confusion to me why she’s doing so well against Ash. All the others seem about right. Would like to see Constantine win, but I’ll keep dreaming.

  5. Pulling for Faith against Ash, I may loose some geek cred here but while I enjoyed the first two Evil Dead movies for what they were I just never got the attraction of Army of Darkness.

It’s weird but while I am a fan horror movies, I guess I never got into horror comics much other than BRPD and Ghost Rider as a kid and only as a kid,(haven’t bought a GR issue since the seventies) I’ve never read much of the others, handful of issues of Hellblazer and a few Morbius appearances in Spider-man about covers my breath of knowledge on the rest of these characters.

I think Ash vs. Faith is the hardest match-up they’ve ever had in these things. I eventually gave it to Ash even though I’m pretty sure Faith would take that fight. What’s he going to do, quip her to death?

No, I bet he would use the chainsaw. On second thought he might quip her to the point where she is so annoyed that she just quits, thus he moves on due to her disqualification.

  8. Why can’t Ash and Faith just put aside their differences and make a baby?

I am not sure that Ash knows how to make a baby. Also, I know Faith has kind of low standards for guys, but come on.

    In a nutshell:

Possessed Witch: You found me beautiful once…
Ash: Honey, you got real ugly.

Ash: All right, you primitive screw-heads, listen up!

  11. Faith may lose because of the geekdom factor Ash has, but she would rip that chainsaw saw off his arm and start carving. Faith is the Bad Girl everbody roots for. We want to see her triumph and be more than a slutty dysfunctional salyer.

What I see is a Haunted Tank vs. BPRD that will be interesting. Haunted Tank could just go all the way.

I think BPRD will knock out Haunted Tank. And, I think Ash would beat Faith to be honest. He’s like Garth Ennis’s Kev. He’s simultaneously the world’s luckiest and unluckiest guy. It’s when he’s completely overmatched, luck sees him through. When up against the mundane, he just gets pulverized. Not to mention the fact he can take a beating like nobody’s business. So, Faith would probably beat the tar out of him, until he ended up tripping and falling over just as she attempted to tackle him, only to impale herself on his chainsaw as a result. In other words, “Who’s laughing now!?!”

    Constantine: Written by Garth Ennis.

Ghost Rider: Written by Garth Ennis, and the world’s most painfully obvious Garth Ennis impersonator.

    ADVANTAGE: Constantine.

Ash: His creator’s most embarrassing moment: Spider-Man 3

Faith: Her creator’s most embarrassing moment: Astonishing X-Men.

    ADVANTAGE: Ash.

Werewolf by Night: He’s a Werewolf.

Haunted Tank: Tank Haunted by the ghost of Jeb Stuart who regularly gets into fights with a Nazi tank haunted by Genghis Kahn.

    ADVANTAGE: DUH.

Morbius: Has never punched out Cthulhu.

B.P.R.D.: punched out Cthulhu for breakfast.

    ADVANTAGE: B.P.R.D.

As I write this, the polls close in about three hours, and most of the fights are decided…

But Ash is up on Faith by only 8 votes. Faith fans, vote now or forever hold your piece! Ash fans, vote now if you want to help bolster his lead!

Hold your piece? Do they all have guns?
