Rumble Pants X: Sweet Sixteen
What is Rumble Pants? Well, the Panteon has decided to play at god once more. We take a few select comic characters and pit them against one another for our amusement, but we figured why keep the fun all to ourselves? So we decided on a format that would require your participation and will hopefully provide amusement for you at the same time. The format is a single elimination tournament with weekly rounds decided by you, the reader. Just keep reading to help decide the ultimate fate of some of your favorite comic characters!
After losing out in the first round of their initial bouts, 16 contenders got another chance at the title in the last round. And the overall winner, facing off against Deadshot and winning by 63 votes, was Hawkeye. And now it’s time for an all-new round.
As always, we’re starting at the Sweet Sixteen stage. This time out, it’s a reprise of one of our most popular rounds, the second Indie round. We’re featuring characters from a variety of smaller publishers, including Top Shelf, Oni Press, Dark Horse, Image and more. If you’re not sure who these characters are, do a quick Wikipedia search… it’s worth looking into them.
As always, though, it isn’t just about who would be most likely win in each fight; it’s about who you want to win each fight and advance to the next round. Click the bracket thumbnail above to the side to see how the tournament has progressed so far. These polls will close just after midnight on Sunday, December 17th.

Oooh…I like this one. Sadly, had to pick between The Tick and Flaming Carrot. Went with FC simply because…well, I don’t know. Ut! Other than the last one (I never read either Stray…or Queen…) the rest were easy to pick.

QuoteOnly one I care much about is Tara. I doubt she’ll go very far but maybe she’ll at least win her first round bout.

Quoteyou made me choose between bone family and Francine, Katchoo & David. how dare you! but of course I gotta go for the Bone fam. And how can sonic be tied with Owly. Owly is the cutest thing since puppies and kittens and Sonic is a washed up has been from the extreeeeme era. I predict Scott Pilgrim having a strong performance.

Quotehere’s to madman all the way!

QuoteLeft bracket is very strong. Not sure there’s anything in the right bracket that would be able to top any of the first round winners from the left (but that’s just me).
I’ve not read much of Q&C but for those of you picking Tara Chance over Amy Racecar, I can only assume it’s because you haven’t read Stray Bullets. She is an absolutely awesome character.

QuoteI chose Melaka Fray over Cassie Hack but I hated to do it! They’re both good.
But let’s face it, Slayers have more refined fighting skills than slasher killers.

QuoteIt was difficult to choose between Basil Cronus and Madman!!

QuoteI predict a Tick vs. Screw On Head fight. Which makes me try to think of a Mignola “Tick” comic (I can’t…no matter how hard I try!) yet, oddly enough, I can easily think of an Edlund Screw-On Head comic. How weird is that?

QuoteSpoooooon!

QuoteI want Mel vs. Spoon! Joss vs Edlund!!

QuoteJust voted in three brackets. Was surprised to see Owly leading Sonic by a bit. Guess others like me pick the silent owl. Tick, SPOOOOOOOOOOOON! Meleka Fray all the way!

QuoteLove this one, I predict Tara vs. Madman!
Hey guys, how about a human/espionage/noir type of round? I’m thinking Tara Chace, Carrie Stetko, characters from Criminal, Sin City, Fell, 100 Bullets, no superpowers!

QuoteChoosing between the Tick and Flaming Carrot was a tough one for me but I went with the Tick, mostly because I’ve enjoyed it in comics, cartoon and live action formats, even if every incarnation got progressively diluted.
Basil Cronus vs. Madman was also a tough one for me, went with Basil Cronus cause ya gotta love a head floating in a jar.
The rest I was pretty much indifferent to so I tried to go for what I thought would be the underdog.

And yes, SPOOOOOOOON indeed.

Quotehate to sound like a whimp but do Sonic and Owly need to FIGHT? Cant they be friends?
12 Dec 2007 at 7:18 pm
QuoteFirst of all, Sonic was in comic books? I know I missed a few years of comics between the 70’s and now but seriously…Sonic was in comics? And as cute and lovable as Owly? Owly says ->?!
13 Dec 2007 at 7:30 am
QuoteThis was the most difficult time I’ve had yet voting in these things.
Not only did Sonic have a comic, he STILL has SEVERAL. Not only that, but it’s one of the few titles I have kids show up at my store religiously to buy (not sure why any kid would even know who Sonic is anymore, it’s been so long since there’s been a Sonic game, or one that’s gotten any attention).
That said, Owly better take that one. He has low enough self-esteem as it is. Can we assume that Knuckles vs. Wormy is happening simultaneously?
13 Dec 2007 at 11:31 am
QuoteI’m hoping it comes down to Owly and Tara Chace in the last round. That’s a comic book I’d pay to reead.
