Comic Pants Podcast #48: 2nd Annual Golden Pants Awards pt 2

pants-copy.jpgWelcome back to the Comic Pants podcast! This is part two of our Second Annual Golden Pants Awards, celebrating our favorite creators of 2007. Nick Budd, Randy Lander, David Martindale and Dan Grendell name their Best of 2007 choices, and Dave Farabee provides color commentary and makes “unofficial” picks as well.

As always, commentary is welcomed and encouraged. Let us know what you thought of the podcast, and if you’ve got suggestions for future podcast topics, leave us a comment!

Though we’re on a biweekly schedule, it will actually be three weeks until our next podcast, as podcast recording has been interrupted by the unstoppable juggernaut known as The Superbowl. The next podcast will be available in mid-February.

For the benefit of those who can’t listen to the podcast or who just want a text list, we’re presenting the complete list of Best Of choices here as well. Context for these choices, not to mention runner-ups, are mentioned only in the podcast, and the lists are protected by our spoiler tags so that anyone who doesn’t want to see them before listening to the podcast doesn’t have to.

If the podcast is playing at extra-fast chipmunks speed while using the on-site player, that means you don’t have the latest version of Adobe Flash installed on your browser.

Click here to install the latest version. The link auto-detects your browser type, so if you want to fix multiple browsers, you’ll have to visit the link with each browser separately.

This problem is caused by a long-known bug in Flash itself. Finally, now that Adobe has taken over Flash from Macromedia, it looks like the bug is getting fixed, and that means that I’m going to stop compensating for the bug while post-producing the podcast.

You’ll all be sure to give us a “Is Greg Pakin’?” update in the next podcast, right?

I bought some new book shelves recently so I’ve been moving books around. I was looking at my books and thinking about “Best Of”.. and I guess I’m just really bad at Best Of. Best I can do is, “Vertigo is Best Of All”. :-)

There is absolutely no one you haven’t mentioned that I could think of, but seeing you mentioned both Barry Kitson and Olivier Coipel as artists of the year, Mark Morales should get some recognition too as he inked both and really helped elevate their work. Kitson’s pencils don’t look half as good in the most recent issue of The Order without Morales’ inks. (No offense intended to Jon Sibal).

Oh, and Brubaker/Epting/Perkins on Captain America as my creative team of the year

Can’t say I can comment alot on those mentioned, as I’m still a Marvel free zone (aside from She-Hulk).

I guess I’d have to nominate the Sinestro Corps War team for something given it was probably my favourite supers story of 07.

I’d also nominate Gail Simone for writing for Wonder Woman, Atom and Welcome to Tranquility.

I certainly agree with the nomination of Brian Wood.

For ‘Best Creator with the least amount of content in 07′ I’d nominate Eric Shanower.

That would be David Martindale, or if you’d rather call him D3, and if you click on the Buy Comic Pants Merch! button on our sidebar, you’ll be transported to a wonderful land where you can buy said t-shirt!
