Rumble Pants XII: Sweet Sixteen
By popular demand, Rumble Pants is back! What is Rumble Pants? Well, the Panteon has decided to play at god once more. We take a few select comic characters and pit them against one another for our amusement, but we figured why keep the fun all to ourselves? So we decided on a format that would require your participation and will hopefully provide amusement for you at the same time. The format is a single elimination tournament with weekly rounds decided by you, the reader. Just keep reading to help decide the ultimate fate of some of your favorite comic characters!
The winners of our couples round were Batman and Catwoman, taking down Colossus and Kitty Pryde in the final round.
As always, we’re starting at the Sweet Sixteen stage. This time out, it’s the big guns round! While not everyone here is a household name (hello Time Trapper), we’ve got some of the heavy hitters of both universes squaring off, in both obvious matches and less obvious (bonus points to anyone who can figure out the reasons behind the match-up of Iron Man and Captain Marvel).
As always, it isn’t just about who would be most likely win in each fight; it’s about who you want to win each fight and advance to the next round. Click the bracket thumbnail above to the side to see how the tournament has progressed so far. These polls will close just after midnight on Saturday, May 10th.

Okay, I’ll bite…what’s the link between Iron Man and Captain Marvel? It’s the only one I can’t figure out.

Quotered and gold?

QuoteHeh. Think we can go ahead and call Magneto/Polaris?
04 May 2008 at 10:43 pm
QuoteThat’s it. Actually, Nick suggested it, based on magic vs. technology, so there’s that, too… but I liked it because of the red and gold.
And yep, Joe, I think Magneto/Polaris is going to be a slaughter. But really, who else could we have him fight?
Looks like the close one, no surprise, might be Thor vs. Superman.

QuoteAfter listening to the podcast, I have to believe you’re taking this Marvel vs. DC thing seriously.
Really exciting stuff.
04 May 2008 at 11:42 pm
QuoteI dunno if Rumble Pants can ever indicate us taking anything *too* seriously.

QuoteFirst off…..who the hell is Time Trapper….I know who kang is…but I never found him that interesting. Also for captain marvel vs iron man….shouldnt exist…because everyone is suffereing iron man fever. Plus wouldn’t marvels captain marvel been a better choice.
I am thrilled Flash is beating Spiderman…..Keep it up folks.
Kudos to Thor for putting up a fight….he doesn’t get enough love…..but I still love Superman way more thus I voted for him.

QuoteTime Trapper is a Legion of Super-Heroes villain. Like Kang, he messes with time a lot. Considering that so far Iron Man and Captain Marvel are tied, I don’t think using him was as big an issue as you suggest.

QuoteOther than Magneto/Dr. Polaris (Magneto), Time Trapper/Kang (Kang), and Spider-Man/Flash (Spider-Man), this is the most difficult Rumble Pants in which I’ve voted.
After much deliberation I went with Ra’s al Ghul, Kingpin, Batman, Captain Marvel, and Superman.

QuoteWOW! Those are some damn strong first round matches.
05 May 2008 at 3:28 am
QuoteSurprised but delighted that Flash is beating Spidey.
Stunned but overwhelmed with joy that Batman is so utterly DESTROYING Wolverine.
05 May 2008 at 5:11 am
QuoteYou could have gone Black Adam: Former rulers of failed nations.
The only battle that makes me sad is Batman/ Wolverine. Though I like both characters, I’ve ODed on both.
Could I vote for Dark Claw instead?

QuoteKIND OF SORTA SPOILER BELOW:
Hey, I just read this week’s Action Comics #864, and judging by the last page Time Trapper may be a no-name now but DC seems to have bigger plans for him in the months to come…
05 May 2008 at 6:44 am
QuoteI know….NOw I look stupid for my statment.
05 May 2008 at 1:25 pm
QuoteBatman wins. Every time. That’s one of the rules of the universe. He’s smarter than everyone.
Though if we ever had him versus the Hulk, who is still the strongest one of all, it would be interesting to see if brains can beat that much brawn.
05 May 2008 at 2:18 pm
QuoteSpiderman beating Flash? Flash would disarm those web shooters before Spidey could even blink!
Other than that, the other fights are going the way that they are supposed to!=)
05 May 2008 at 4:02 pm
QuotePrediction: The finals will come down to Magneto vs. Batman.

QuoteFor your edification
1981 - Batman VS The Incredible Hulk
Batman pwned the green giant. Boxed his ears and gassed him out.
05 May 2008 at 6:16 pm
QuoteI thought Iron Man was matched against Captain Marvel since they are both “powered” by electricity.
05 May 2008 at 7:21 pm
Quotemy favrote team up EVER. be glad it was not 9 years later opening the door to eye wounds, castration, tounge removal and other gross wound to Hulk’s soft tissuse.
05 May 2008 at 10:11 pm
QuoteTo be fair, I doubt Frank Miller would be writing it.
Now if Geoff Johns was writing it and it was called “Crisis on Planet Hulk”- THEN we’d have to be worried.
06 May 2008 at 6:25 am
QuoteI can’t believe Thor is losing to Superman. I say the Immortal God of Thunder and Lightning beats the alien with suntan powers hands down. C’mon, if Doomsday the one-note KILLS Superman, Thor OWNS Superman.
Just normal DC over-powered characters vs. the more reasonable Marvel characters carrying the day. Even the most OVER powered Marvel character, Wolverine, is loosing to the ’super-smart unbeatable Batman’, the one DC character with no powers. Still don’t get that one. What’d he do, offer Logan beers, babes and cigars? I mean, this guy got atomized down to his skeleton and was on his feet in 5 minutes. What’s Batman going to do?
06 May 2008 at 8:54 pm
Quoteyeah that might be fun though Miller wrote the Daredevil vs Hulk that made me think “Why would you EVER give bruce banner two cups of coffee?”
