Rumble Pants XIII: Final Four

logo.jpgBy popular demand, Rumble Pants is back! What is Rumble Pants? Well, the Panteon has decided to play at god once more. We take a few select comic characters and pit them against one another for our amusement, but we figured why keep the fun all to ourselves? So we decided on a format that would require your participation and will hopefully provide amusement for you at the same time. The format is a single elimination tournament with weekly rounds decided by you, the reader. Just keep reading to help decide the ultimate fate of some of your favorite comic characters!

It’s the penultimate fight in the Batman round, and there were some surprises in the last round, as the inexperienced (but beloved) Year One Batman took down the super-powerful fan-favorite Morrison Uber-Bat. It wasn’t all wine and roses for the Miller version, though, as the Dini/Timm Animated Batman beat out the Dark Knight Batman to move on. Now it’s those two classic Batman versions, and in the other corner, the original, gun-toting, “fitting end for his kind” Batman takes on the Batman who battled Jack the Ripper on Earth-13 (or whatever number Countdown assigned it.) Who will win? Well, that’s up to you!

As always, it isn’t just about who would be most likely win in each fight; it’s about who you want to win each fight and advance to the next round. Click the bracket thumbnail above to the side to see how the tournament has progressed so far. These polls will close just after midnight on Saturday, June 21st.

Now is this Bob Kane Batman the gun-toting fellow from way back?

Call me shallow, but I went with Gotham By Gaslight Batman because he looks cooler.

Plus he was better written. And the artwork was gorgeous, moody and dark but with crystal clear storytelling and fine attention to detail. Plus the story placed him in an historical context that shed light on the social and economic mores of the time in addition to providing a thrilling tale of adventure.

Hey, wait a minute! I’m not so shallow after all!

Is the Bob Kane Batman really any modern reader’s favorite version? I couldn’t finish the first book of The Batman Chronicles as I found it chronically dull.

I think Bob Kane Batman just lucked out in the bracket he was in. I’d put him somewhere around the middle of the pack for these 16, but he just had easy matches.

I’ve been cheering for Animated Series Batman from the start, but I was worried Year One would give him more of a fight. I’m pleasantly surprised at Mr. Animated’s performance.
