About Comic Pants

Comic Pants is a comic book review site established in 2006 from Austin, Texas. Our goal is to provide quality reviews without taking ourselves too seriously. We love the medium of comics and want to share our love of comics with others.

Why Comic Pants? First of all, why not? Secondly, we needed a memorable name for the site. Hey, it’s not like you’re going to forget it.

We don’t generally run press releases, but we’re happy to see them. If you’d like to send review copies (via PDF, weblink or print), or if you have other questions about the site, this link will send an email to Dan, Dave, D3, Nick and Randy simultaneously. If you’d like to reach one of our reviewers individually, you’ll find their email addresses in with their bios below. For site admin and/or advertising questions, send email here.

Dave Farabee

Dave Farabee blames his childhood best friend, Richard Shaw, for getting him into comics with Claremont’s Uncanny X-Men. Also for endlessly playing a “Best of Hall & Oate” LP that made him a closet fan. A lifelong Austinite, Dave worked at an art degree for a few years before realizing he was better at writing about comics than drawing them. He was a founding member of Ain’t-It-Cool-News’s @$$holes comic review team and wrote there for five years. He loves EC Segarï’s Popeye, Walt Simonsonï’s Thor, Larry Hamaï’s G.I. Joe, Hayao Miyazakiï’s Nausicaa, Bill Willingham’s Fables, Mark Oakley’s Thieves & Kings and Makoto Kobayashiï’s cat manga, Whatï’s Michael?.

Dave is the last person in America to not have a MySpace page, but can be wooed or reviled at jefepants@gmail.com.

David Martindale aka D3

David Martindale has been a comic geek since the second grade, and his earliest comic influences were Claremont’s X-Men and Hama’s GI Joe. He took a few years off from comics in the late 90’s while in college. D3 is now a bonafide register monkey at his local comic shop. He also likes to pretend that he’s a photographer to get cute girls to pose half naked for him at EmptyAllegory.com.

D3 is the site administrator for Comic Pants; his responsibilities generally include reviewing, web maintenance, managing advertising space, and podcast production. D3 can be reached at comicpants@gmail.com.

Dan Grendell

Dan Grendell is a lover of graphic entertainment of all kinds, even “them crazy Japernees comix whut start at the back.” All he asks is that the comic in question be good at what it is trying to do. The first comic he can remember reading is Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing story “Anatomy Lesson” at the tender age of ten, and it warped his fragile little mind beyond all recovery.

Dan lives in Austin, TX and can be contacted by e-mail at portugueseleper@hotmail.com. (If you got the Scurvy Dogs reference, pat yourself on your back with your hook hand.)

Nick Budd

Nick Budd has no life but really happens to love comics, especially Punisher books for some strange reason that not even he knows. If you have any questions about the 80’s Transformers comic, he’s the one to ask since that’s what got him into comics. He lives in Austin, TX and when not at work at a local comic shop, can occasionally be found in random coffee houses, sucking down espressos, reading or working on whatever project is occupying his mind at the time.

He is one of five reviewers for Comic Pants and can be reached at punisherpants@gmail.com

Randy Lander

Randy Lander has been reviewing comics for about 10 years, having started on Usenet and moved on to a variety of sites, including Comic Book Resources, Psycomic, Newsarama and The Fourth Rail. He started reading comics in the ’80s with G.I. Joe and X-Men and has been on an ever-expanding comic book kick since then. Randy lives in Austin, TX with his wife, son and daughter and is the owner of Rogues Gallery Comics & Games in Round Rock, Texas.

Randy is the grumpy old man of Comic Pants. He blogs at Inside Joke Theatre and can be reached at pants.randy@gmail.com.
