I’m not going to mention who we use, but it’s been one headache after another. At least 95% of the technical problems with our site have been server side, and the frequency of MySQL server crashes is insane. The most recent crash corrupted some of our data in the wordpress database. So the site might not look so great for the next 24 hours or so while I try to get things back to normal. I would love to hear any suggestions for a new shared hosting solution. What I’m looking for more than anything else is stability. We have weekly crashes that last for hours and tech support that doesn’t care, and it’s driving me insane!

We’re taking a week or two off from podcasting here at Comic Pants. Basically, everybody is pretty busy with everyday life stuff, and so we decided to take a break, recharge our batteries and come back at podcasting fresh. Not to worry, Wednesday Number Ones, Rumble Pants and Top Five Fridays will continue as usual, and with any luck we’ll manage to get a few more reviews out there as well.

In the meantime, here’s what we need from you guys, preferably posted in the comments below: Topics. And lots of them. What do you want to hear us talk about in upcoming podcasts? We’ve got a few ideas, but we can always use more, and this is your chance to point us in a direction you’re interested in listening to.

We here at Comic Pants like to hear what you think about changes we make to the site. You’ve asked for more manga content, so here it is- a new monthly column, like unto our Fat Pants column, but dealing strictly with manga released each month. What struck our fancy? What did we think was a good read? What new and cool ideas appeared this month in books read backwards? Of course, we can’t read everything, but we’re sure gonna try. Wednesday Number Ones is a weekly feature here at Comic Pants. We take the books that are premiering a first issue from that week and give a quick opinion on them. From time to time we may also include more than issue number ones in this feature. If a noteworthy one-shot or the first issue of a new story arc is released, we may talk about it in this feature.

The original Pantsers (or Panteon, depending on your preferred nomenclature) would like to extend a warm welcome to our newest writer, Dan Grendell! We’ve all known Dan for some time, and he has written for Ain’t It Cool News comics alongside Dave Farabee, so it was a no-brainer to invite him to join the team. We’ve received quite a few emails from folks that would like to listen to the podcast but can’t seem to get more than a few minutes into each episode. The vast majority of these complaints seems to be coming from locations overseas from the United States. I’ve been going back and forth with our hosting company’s tech support department, and neither I nor the tech support guys can find a problem on the hosting end of things, but I am still reluctant to assume that the problem is on the listener’s end. We started out being a little bit more paranoid than seems necessary in retrospect. First off, we required everybody’s first comment to the site to be approved by a moderator before the user was able to post comments without being moderated. We axed that security feature as it didn’t end up being relevant as we weren’t having to deny many request to post comments. Now, we are axing the requirement that users register an account and log in to that account to be able to post comments. All that is now required to post a comment is that the user fill out the name he/her wishes to post under and an email address (email won’t be published with the comment) when posting. As always, we eagerly await your questions and comments!

It’s software update time.

The site should remain mostly usable for the next few hours, but there may be temporary interruptions as I update Wordpress to ver 2.0.5

The update process is scheduled to take place from 11pm Central until 4am Central, but it will probably be done much sooner. Thank you for your patience.

Three of the Comic Pants crew (Randy Lander, David Martindale and Nick Budd) will be attending the Wizard World Texas in Dallas this weekend. We’ll be there from Friday afternoon to close of show on Saturday, and we’ll be heading out to Zeus Comics on Friday night to see Kristian Donaldson’s live art show. We’d love to meet any of our fans in attendance, maybe even go out and grab lunch on Saturday, so if you’re going to be at the show, drop us an email or just make sure and say hi if you’re there!

STAPLE! The Independent Media Expo is coming back for its third annual show on Saturday, March 3, 2007. The only convention in the Southwest for independently produced comics, zines, and graphic arts will once again take place at the lovely Red Oak Ballroom at 2525 West Anderson Lane in Austin, Texas!
