I’ve reviewed Hack/Slash any number of times in the past, and the series has always been a touch hit and miss with me. It has had a variety of artists, some good, some not so good, a couple very good. It has had some very fun, memorable stories, and others that suffered from the series’ one-shot structure. The Hack/Slash ongoing series is a way for the book to develop its interesting premise and characters, and Seeley has found an excellent artistic collaborator in Emily Stone, who keeps the creep factor up but also delivers the emotional core of the story. Growing up in the 80’s, G.I. Joe was just about the best thing there was (a tie with Transformers in my mind). Whether it was the action blitz of the comic book or the cheesy, no one ever gets hurt, antics of the cartoon, I was there. Why? Because it was cool. I even love that hellish G.I. Joe movie with all of its Cobra-La-ing and Don Johnson as the voice of Lt. Falcon. Over the years though, after the initial 155 issue Marvel run, I was less on board the Dark Horse and Devil’s Due runs.
